The Boss Trailer-a Unique Camper

Little Guy Worldwide, one of America's fastest growing recreational vehicle manufacturers, has teamed up with survival expert Tim Ralston to produce and promote the "Bug Out Survival Shelter" or BOSS, for short.

The BOSS trailer is based on the Little Guy 6-Wide Rough Rider Platform. It has a ruggedized powder coated frame with steel skid plate, pintle hitch, 15-inch knobby tires, and a 36-inch deep platform for transporting dirt bikes or other gear. The rear hatch of the BOSS opens to reveal a galley with sink and two-burner LP range. This unique camper comes with an external 66-foot self-retracting hose for connecting to a variety of available water sources.

The BOSS survival trailer ships with three to six months of food provisions, a medical kit, two sleeping bags, two "US" stamped wool blankets, cooking equipment, Tim Ralston's signature 7-day bug out bag, the Crovel and Nax tools developed by Tim Ralston, repelling gear, toilet, and other essential items. Many of these items stow in locking bins under the floor of the camper, while others can be easily stored in the locking gear box mounted on the tongue of the camper.

According to Chris Baum, chief operations officer for Little Guy, "This is a concept that we've discussed internally for a number of years, but after Hurricane Sandy we decided that it just makes that much more sense. The BOSS is a complete recreation and survival platform. It's a great place to store survival gear in the event of an emergency that necessitates an evacuation of one's home, but it's also a great looking, functional recreational platform."

The BOSS ships with a ProRac roof rack that adapts to receive a variety of different attachments including gear baskets, bike racks, and canoe and kayak racks. The trailer's 2-inch receiver also permits the addition of a bicycle rack or gear platform.

The interior of the trailer is about the size of a king-size bed. It has overhead cabinets and a DVD player with fold-down television screen. The electronics and lighting run off the trailer's 12-volt power system, and the BOSS comes complete with solar panels that can be used to recharge the trailer's deep cycle battery.

At its unveiling in December the trailer was met with much interest and fanfare at the Louisville RV Show. "It really was the hit of the show," said Little Guy owner Joe Kicos. "We were awarded 2013 Top RV Debut Award by RV Business Magazine. There we were surrounded by six figure motor coaches, and the trailer that everyone wanted to see was the survival trailer by Little Guy. We've been getting great feedback, and we expect it to be a great success."

The BOSS Trailer will be sold through Little Guy's existing nationwide dealer network as well as through various other retail channels including Scottsdale, Arizona based Gear Up Center. The trailer retails for around $20,000 depending upon trim and gear level and went on sale on March 1.
