Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo's subsidiary Volvo Trucks has introduced Volvo VNX heavy-haul tractor at the ongoing 2013 Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, Kentucky, US.
The vehicle is powered by the company's 16L engine mated to Volvo's automated I-Shift transmission that generates an output of 600hp and 2800Nm (2050lbft) of torque.
Scheduled to be made available for orders in autumn 2013, the tractor is claimed to be designed for applications up to 102tons .
Volvo has also launched D13-LNG, a 13L engine that runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the Volvo VNL day-cabs.
According to the company, the engine uses a small amount of diesel fuel to ignite the LNG and offers about 20% fuel efficiency compared to the spark-ignition natural gas engines, while delivering output and torque similar to diesel engines.
The D13-LNG engine will be made available by the company during the second half of 2014.
