German automobile manufacturer Opel has commenced the series production of its new Insignia model vehicles at the Russelsheim plant.

The move is expected to further drive to the sales of the vehicles, following the earlier production and sales of about 600,000 units of the vehicle, with Germany and the UK being the major markets.

Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann said, "Today Opel has the strongest model portfolio ever, and the Insignia is a very important part of that."

Earlier, the company had revamped the entire Insignia portfolio including the four-door, five-door, Sports Tourer and OPC versions by improving features like design, new cockpit and new infotainment systems.

The company also plans to introduce a new 2L CDTI engine paired to six-speed manual transmission with a start/stop that uses about 3.7L of diesel per 100km and emits 99g/km CO2 along with the new 1.4 Turbo gasoline engine that offer fuel usage of 5.2L/100km with CO2 emissions of 123g/km.

The Insignia will be produced with the company's Country Tourer vehicle at the Russelsheim plant.
