Knitwear Technology Mission Centre in Tirupur

The Knitwear Technology Mission (KTM) centre in Tirupur, the building for which was inaugurated in 2009, is now all set to become functional from May 6, 2014.

“We have imported Tricot Warp knitting machine from Germany, which can be used by the exporters for their sampling needs,” an office bearer of Tirupur Exporters’ Association told fibre2fashion.

The KTM has been launched by the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) to empower the exporting community to go in for wider range of products in different kinds of fabrics to cater to a larger market.

Tirupur is the all-India headquarters of the KTM and a building for the same was inaugurated in 2009 along Tirupur-Avinashi road. The building houses a knitting division, a design studio, seminar hall, resource and audio visual centre, and a wing to carry out research and development activities.

The KTM centre, expected to be inaugurated on May 6 by Textiles Secretary Zohra Chatterji, will help the knitwear sector develop innovative apparel for swimwear, sportswear and other performance wear, using mainly man-made fibres like polyester and nylon.

The centre would offer consultancy services in the field of processing, knitting, garmenting, testing, fashion designing, new product development, etc.

The centre has been equipped with a facility to impart training to more than 5,000 people every year.
