Interfax reported that Russian gas giant OJSC Gazprom plans to invest RUR 700 million in the gasification of the Leningrad Region in 2013.
The company's deputy CEO Valery Golubev told journalists that Gazprom invest RUR 1.9 billion in gasification efforts but the company considered these investments to be premature.
Mr Golubev said that "We are ready to look at this amount of investment if preparations are made for receiving gas adding that consumers in several districts in the Leningrad Region do not have the option of using gas owing to the lack of necessary infrastructure.”
Sources in the region's administration earlier were quoted as saying that financing for gasification in the region in 2012-2015 should come to RUR 31.5 billion including RUR 15.5 billion from Gazprom, and RUR 16 billion from the region.
The region's rate of gasification comes to 58.6% and has been increasing by 1.5 of a percentage point every year.
