REI closed its stores in Brentwood, CA, opened just five years ago, citing poor sales.
REI spokeswoman Libby Catalinich told the Contra Costa Times that the company is looking to relocate the store's full-time employees to other area stores.
"We tried very hard, but the store simply didn't generate enough revenue," Catalinich stated. "We shared this news with our employees early today and are focused on helping them through this transition."
Calls to the store were met with a recording stating, "It has been a pleasure helping you get ready for outdoor adventures through this location. We look forward to serving you at one of our 15 other Northern California stores."
