"Asda has a lot of space in its supermarkets and is looking at different ways to fill it."
The Walmat-owned Asda is interested in buying the Early Learning Centre business from Mothercare.
Sources have told Express that Asda is one of a number of interested parties, stating: “Asda has a lot of space in its supermarkets and is looking at different ways to fill it.
"The Early Learning Centre would be a logical fit for the company, the brand still carries weight with consumers.”
Last year, Asda launched a scheme with Barclays to try out small in-store spots at some of its supermarkets.
The Early Learning Centre cost Mothercare £85 million back in 2007, but Express sources claim the retailer will be forced to sell the business at a 'knock-down' price.
