PPG Industries’ packaging coatings business has announced that it will showcase INNOVEL HPS new generation spray coatings for the interior of beverage cans at Cannex & Fillex Asia Pacific in Guangzhou, China, June 1-4. PPG also will feature the Innovel range of novel coatings designed to meet growing beverage-industry demand and to comply with evolving regulatory requirements for aluminum and steel beverage cans and ends.
Groundbreaking water-based Innovel HPS spray coatings for aluminum and steel beverage cans offer unique new technology that provides flavor-neutral properties as well as effective pasteurization and retort capabilities, making them suitable for a broad range of filling products. Innovel HPS coatings are approved by all major brands, and they are commercially and globally available. Innovel HPS coatings cover all weight specifications and run efficiently on can makers’ lines.
PPG also will introduce Innovel HPE new generation polyester coatings for the interior and exterior of beverage Easy-Open-Ends, formulated to deliver high-performance solutions to coil coaters, can makers and brand owners. Innovel HPE coatings are Bisphenol A non–intent (BPA-NI), compliant to the latest North American and European regulations. The new range includes styrene-free and PVC-free coatings.
“Innovel HPE coatings for non-post-lube processing are suitable for chrome and chrome-free substrates. They offer excellent stamping efficiencies and they withstand deep drawing processes, which makes them suitable for all industry end profiles. Innovel HPE coatings also are suitable for pasteurization and light retort processes,” said Mike Mei, general manager, packaging coatings, Asia Pacific.
“Innovel HPE interior coatings are recognized for their excellent flavor-neutral characteristics and pack resistance. They are suitable for a broad range of goods, fulfilling the critical requirements of beverage brand owners,” he added.
The Innovel HPE range also includes coatings for sheet application, Mei said. “We will feature a series of new generation Innovel HPE sheet coatings that are approved by key fillers and exhibit high-solids content designed for retort processing, with good feathering performance and low condensate.”
PPG also will showcase the new W1 series of waterborne coatings for beverage ends suitable for carbonated soft drinks and beers, offering solutions that help reduce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to enhance environmental quality. Additionally, it will introduce innovative, superior-performance coatings for the interior and the exterior of aluminum bottles, and it will highlight waterborne BPA-NI, styrene-free, high-gloss, flexible and abrasion-resistant external varnishes that are suitable for pasteurization and wet-on-wet application, compatible with thermochromic inks, and ideal for Coil-to-Can (C2C) and extruded bottles.
“PPG’s full coatings range covers all packaging usage, and at the show we will highlight new engineered products for the food, cosmetics, personal care and pharmaceutical markets, as well as the paint and chemical industries. We have a wide range of brand-new technologies that comply with the latest regulations and are now commercially available, already delivering strong performance and benefits to customers and brand owners around the globe,” Mei said.
