Amazon Will Create More Than 2,000 Permanent Jobs in The Next Two Years

Amazon will create more than 2,000 permanent jobs in the next two years with the opening of three more distribution centres.

Another 3,000 temporary jobs will also be created at the new centres during the Christmas peak period.

The roles will be in IT,HR,facilities management,learning and development in addition to a range of operational management areas.

The news comes after Amazon opened its 450,000 square foot distribution centre in Boundary Way,Hemel Hempstead,which is set to create 600 of the new permanent jobs.

Christopher North,managing director of Amazon.co.uk,said:"We have created thousands of jobs in the UK over the last few years and are delighted to announce that we plan to create thousands more in the next 24 months.

"Our recruitment team has been exceptionally busy recently hiring hundreds of employees at the Hemel Hempstead fulfilment centre and they will certainly be busy over the next couple of years as we continue to expand to provide customers with the best possible experience.We look forward to welcoming thousands of new recruits to the Amazon team,"he added.

Prime minister David Cameron welcomed the news.In a statement he said:"I am delighted that Amazon will create thousands of new jobs.This is great news,not only for those individuals who will find work,but for the UK economy.This shows that the UK has the infrastructure and talent to continue to attract major investments from leading companies such as Amazon."

The new centre is Amazon's eighth in the UK following on from centres in Marston Gate,Doncaster,Peterborough,Rugeley,Dunfermline,Gourock and Swansea Bay.

The firm is also opening a technology hub in east London in the next few months.
