American vehicle manufacturer General Motors (GM) has issued a voluntary recall on 18,972 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles of certain model year 2014, over concerns with either of the front seatbacks.
The company has manufactured these vehicles from 1 August to 10 September 2013, and equipped them with manual reclining seatbacks.
If the vehicle is struck from behind, the head restraint may not properly protect occupants, increasing the risk of injury.
With this problem, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 202a, Head Restraints.
GM dealers will inspect the seatback recliner mechanisms and make adjustments, as needed, free of charge. Owners of the affected vehicles have been notified regarding this issue.
Last week, GM also issued a voluntary recall of 18,941 vehicles of certain model year 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Coupes over concerns with the air bag warning label on the sun visor.
