Engineered Floors LLC, Dalton, Ga. — a manufacturer of carpet primarily for multi-family housing, and producer of PureColor? with Soilshield?, a solution-dyed stain- and fade-resistant polyester fiber for residential replacement and multi-family housing carpet — will invest more than $450 million over the next five years to expand operations and create 2,000 jobs.
The company will build a manufacturing and distribution facility in Whitfield County and a manufacturing facility in Murray County. Exact locations for the facilities have not been disclosed, but they reportedly will be located outside city limits. Construction will occur in multiple phases over a five-year-period, with the company planning to break ground for the Whitfield facility sometime this summer and for the Murray facility at a later date.
Engineered Floors was established in 2009 by Chairman and CEO Robert E. Shaw, who returned to the industry after retiring in 2006 as CEO of Dalton-based floor-covering manufacturer Shaw Industries Inc. The company built fiber and carpet manufacturing plants in Dalton and Calhoun, Ga., and has expanded seven times since 2009. Engineered Floors acquired Chats-worth, Ga.-based residential carpet manufacturer Dream Weaver Carpet Industries Inc. in 2011 (see " Engineered Floors Acquires Dream Weaver Carpet Industries," Dec. 13, 2011, TextileWorld.com), and currently has a workforce of approximately 1,300 people.
"We are pleased that these new facilities will allow for further job creation for the area," Shaw said. "What we are doing is continuing with our expansion - really, the same thing we've been doing since we started. This is simply an ongoing effort, as we've been creating jobs in Georgia for three years."
