WWL Vehicle Services Americas will own and operate the facility under BMW Group on-site management.

The facility will feature over 44,000ft2 processing space in two buildings on about 20 acres of land. It will be engaged in vehicle inspection, repairs, accessory installation, vehicle programming and vehicle maintenance and storage.

Planned to commence operations in 2016, the center will serve the 45 BMW and MINI dealers, and will have a workforce of 40. First shipment of cars for processing will be received in early 2016.

BMW North America aftersales vice president Craig Westbrook said: "Rapid delivery to our customers and dealers is a key element to exceptional customer service.

"Once fully operational, the new Port of Galveston Vehicle Distribution Center will enable us to receive, prepare and deliver vehicles to the Southern Region even more quickly than before."

At the new facility, BMW is expected to import and process around 32,500 vehicles a year.

Port of Galveston director Michael Mierzwa said: "With this new vehicle processing center we are confident that the activity level of the port will continue to increase, including the creation of new livable wage jobs."
