Toyota Motor has announced recall of around 57,000 vehicles worldwide, to replace the potentially failed Takata's air bag inflators.

Since 2008, over 16 million vehicles have been recalled by several car manufacturers due to problems associated with the air bag inflators made by Takata, reported Reuters.

The air bags are believed to explode with large force and spray metal fragments.

The latest decision by Toyota comes after Honda Motor's recall over the same problem earlier this month.

Toyota's recall includes Vitz subcompacts called Yaris and RAV4 crossover models manufactured between December 2002 and March 2004.

No injuries or death have been reported associated with the recall, Toyota informed.

Takata was warned by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to initiate a nationwide recall, otherwise the company will be entitled for a fine of around $7,000 per vehicle.

According to a report by Nomura Credit research analyst Shintaro Niimura, the recall of driver-side air bags across the US is estimated to cost $600m.

Daihatsu Motor, a subsidiary of Toyota, is also recalling 27,571 Mira minivehicles in Japan involving Takata inflators.

Separately, Toyota Australia has also started a recall of about 8,000 Echo vehicles built between December 2002 and September 2003 and about 260 RAV4 vehicles built between July 2003 and August 2003, over issues with airbag.
