ZF Friedrichshafen Plans to Build a New Testing Center for Transmissions

German automotive parts supplier ZF Friedrichshafen plans to establish a new testing center for transmissions at its R&D Center on Graf-von-Soden-Platz in Friedrichshafen, Germany in 2015 and 2016.

The Group will merge development departments, which are currently at leased office facilities in Friedrichshafen, in the R&D Center.

ZF Friedrichshafen CEO Stefan Sommer said that they may gain office space as a result, but there will be no space for laboratories and test benches.

"For these reasons we have opted for a new building in order to provide our engineers in future as well with optimum conditions for straightforward, close, and productive collaboration," Sommer added.

The new center will include test benches and workshops. It will feature modular interior fixtures to accommodate various purposes depending on the R&D requirements.

ZF corporate R&D head Harald Naunheimer said: "This design allows us to respond quickly to new developments in metrology and test technology for vehicle parts."

The company now plans to talk with city authorities regarding the necessary steps for submitting the planning application.
