US-based Sun Tree is recalling walnuts including 46 cases of 24 count 12oz produce bags, California Grown Shelled Walnuts due to the potential contamination by Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause infections.
The affected products bear Lot No. 42720, Best by 12/11/2014 UPC code of 69887507806; and were distributed to retailers in Kansas City in March 2014.
The recall was initiated after a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sampling detected the organism in walnuts from a California supplier, Golden State Foods that also supplied the walnuts that were packed for sale in Kansas City.
To date, no reports of illnesses associated with the recalled products have been received.
The company has advised consumers who have purchased the walnuts to dispose them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
