Johnson Controls Acquired 90% Ownership in Colombian Automotive Battery Supplier

Auto parts manufacturer Johnson Controls has acquired 90% ownership in Colombian automotive battery supplier MAC.

This move will strengthen the company's automotive battery business in the Central and South American markets.

Johnson Controls Latin America power solutions vice president and general manager Jorge Guillen said: "We will be able to leverage our Brazilian and Mexican operations which will further allow us to capitalize on this investment and continuously improve the products and services we provide to our customers in this region."

MAC is a Colombian automotive batteries supplier, which has a strong presence in the Central and South American regions and in the Caribbean, selling to the aftermarket and to major automakers.

Johnson Controls sells several key brands of batteries in Latin America, including Heliar, VARTA, LTH and OPTIMA.

In June 2011, both companies have formed a joint venture to produce and sell lead-acid batteries in the Central and South American regions.
