EUR250m Will Be Invested by GM in GM Manufacturing Poland plant

American automaker General Motors (GM) is set to invest EUR250m in its GM Manufacturing Poland plant in Tychy for production of a new generation midsize diesel engine family.

With this new investment, the company will set up additional buildings and new manufacturing technology at the plant. It will also enable GM to extend and modernize the plant's infrastructure.

GM will also add a storage area and high-tech production and testing lines, which will increase the plant's surface area by 30%. Construction and installation of the new production equipment will continue until 2016.

The company will commence the production of all-aluminum 1.6L four-cylinder diesel engines starting 2017.The plant is expected to produce 200,000 units annually.

GM will develop the new engine family with Euro 6 emission standards offering high power and torque density, low fuel consumption and reducing CO2 emissions.

After production, these engines will be used to power a wide range of Opel and Vauxhall models.

Adam Opel manufacturing Europe vice president and management board member Peter Thom said that the new midsize diesel engine family is an important part of our engine offensive.
