Heavy-duty transit bus manufacturer New Flyer's subsidiary NABI Bus has secured a contract to supply 654 buses to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in the US.
The deal includes a firm order for supply of 85 units of the NABI BRT-styled diesel-electric hybrid 42ft buses and 71units of 60ft diesel-electric hybrid buses during the upcoming five year contract period.
In addition, the contract includes an optional order for 498 similar vehicles that would be exercised in the future.
New Flyer president and CEO Paul Soubry said the contract strengthens the company's opportunity to provide a broader product and support offering.
"WMATA operates both New Flyer and NABI buses and collectively we have delivered 1,046 buses to WMATA since 1995," Soubry added.
The BRT buses are expected to commence production in the first quarter of 2014 and would be delivered by June in the same year.
All the buses will be manufactured in NABI's Anniston, Alabama facility in the US.
