Infiniti Will Start Operations at The New Infiniti Decherd Powertrain Plant

Hong Kong-based luxury vehicle maker Infiniti Motor will start operations at the new Infiniti Decherd Powertrain Plant located in Franklin County, Tennessee in the US on 26 June 2014.

Infiniti Decherd Powertrain Plant, which is a partnership between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler, was built with an investment of $319m.

The new 310,000ft2 facility will see the production of 2L four-cylinder gasoline engines for the European versions of Infiniti Q50 sports sedan and Mercedes-Benz C-Class assembled in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Infiniti Motor Company president Johan de Nysschen said the opening of this new powertrain facility is an important step for the company.

"It is the first step of our manufacturing expansion that will include the start of vehicle production in China later this year and in Europe next year," de Nysschen added.

Following the start of production, Infiniti plans to increase the Decherd Powertrain Plant to its full production capacity of 250,000 engine units per annum.

Infiniti Motor Company Powertrain Operations and Battery Plant vice president Gary Edwards said, "In this new state-of-the-art facility we are building on 17 years of powertrain experience here in Decherd - taking the best quality standards from Japan and Germany and combining those with our highly skilled US workforce."

The new facility is said to include number of energy efficient design features such as a heat-reflecting white roof and natural daytime lighting through use of a skylight grid.
