Cardia Bioplastics Has Won a Contract to Supply Renewable Kitchen Waste Bags

Cardia Bioplastics has secured an exclusive annual contract with the Shanghai Pudong City District in China to supply an estimated $1.2m of its renewable kitchen waste bags to about 20% of householders in the region, tailored for food waste collection specifically.

According to Cardia, the company's renewable Biohybrid bags are made with Biohybrid technology that uses less oil and a lower carbon footprint.

Earlier in 2012, Cardia supplied its Biohybrid kitchen bags to about 5% of Pudong's households as part of the six-month trial period, and the supply will be expanded to 20% of the households.

Cardia Bioplastics managing director Dr Frank Glatz said, "Through our successful pilot programs, which are already in place in other key districts in China (Nanjing, Hangzhou and Yuhang) we are confident in our corporate strategy of securing additional long term contracts in China."

Pudong, one of four City Councils in China, has conducted waste management trials using Cardia products, and represents a key financial and commercial hub for the entire country.

The company also has a certified compostable offering for its organic waste management business, with trials being in progress in countries including Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Canada, US, Brazil and the UK.
