British luxury car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has granted several new contracts worth GBP2.8bn for supplying automotive parts for its Jaguar F-Type sports car.
The company has awarded the contracts to over 270 companies across the globe, which includes even deals valued over GBP1.5bn with the companies in the UK .
Jaguar Land Rover purchasing director Ian Harnett said the contracts have been given to the suppliers to strengthen the UK automotive supply base and support the company's future growth plans.
"As one of the leading investors in automotive research and development in the UK, Jaguar Land Rover generates several billion pounds of economic activity here every year," Harnett said.
Among the 270 companies, 116 are based in the UK, and out of which 50% represent Midlands region.
JLR has started the production of the F-Type sports car at its Castle Bromwich manufacturing facility in the UK, where the all-aluminum construction of the vehicle is also being done.
