Smiths Medical has obtained CE mark approval for its passive safety device, designed to help protect clinicians and healthcare workers from unintended needlesticks injuries.
The passive device, Jelco IntuitIV Safety IV catheter, features a guide needle with a cylindrical tip protector which automatically encapsulates the guide needle tip upon removing from the patient's blood vessel.
In addition, the safety device includes a length of tubing and an access port through which fluid or medication is delivered to a patient's bloodstream.
Smiths Medical president Srini Seshadri said the company's goal is to help make every medical intervention successful for the patient as well as the caregiver.
"Our Jelco? line of safety devices has a long history of quality, innovation and safety," Seshadri added.
"We are pleased to be able to offer a solution that helps to keep clinicians and healthcare workers safe from needlestick injury and the potentially detrimental consequences."
