German luxury auto-maker Audi announced that the next generation Audi A3 and S3 will feature new engine lineup and driver assistance systems.
New engine lineup for the new A3 will include a range of engines such as 1.0 liter, 1.4 liter, 2.0 liter in gasoline models. Diesel models will be offered with 1.6 liter and 2.0 liter engines.
Gasoline powered 1.0 liter TFSI (Turbo fuel stratified injection) engine produces 85kW (115hp) and 200Nm (147.5 lb-ft) of torque. The 1.4 liter TFSI COD (cylinder on demand) engine produces a power output of110kW (150hp) and 250Nm (184.4 lb-ft).
Audi will offer 2.0 liter TFSI engine with four cylinders which produces a power output of 140kW (190hp) and a torque of 320Nm (236.0 lb-ft). This engine is connected with a seven speed S Tronic with wet clutch.
The diesel powered 1.6 liter TDI (Turbocharged Direct Injection) diesel engine is an entry level engine with 81kW (110hp).
Customers will have option to chose between six speed manual transmission or S Tronic 7 speed dual clutch transmission.
The 2.0 TDI engine produces 110kW (150hp) and 340Nm (250.8 lb-ft) while the power output and torque can be increased to 135 kW (184 hp) and 380 Nm (280.3 lb-ft).
Apart from these variants, the car marker will also offer plug-in hybrid versions for these engines. The plug-in hybrid variant of Audi A3 Sportback e-tron with 1.4 liter TFSI engine includes an electric motor with 75kW and 330Nm of torque. The total combine output in this version stands at 150kW.
It has a battery of 8.8kWh lithium ion battery which can be fully charged in about 2 hours using 380 volt three phase current.
New Audi A3 will also see an improvement in suspension with balanced and sporty tuning. Audi gives the option of lowering the suspension further to be in-line with sports models. It can also include an electrically powered progressive steering system.
Apart from these many engine variants, Audi A3 will be equipped with driver assistance technologies such as lane assist, Audi presense front, predictive pedestrian protection, traffic jam assist, Audi Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Stop&Go feature.
The Stop&Go feature in combination with the S Tronic transmission will set the vehicle in motion once it is stopped with the help of presense front feature.
