Ethiopian Glass Factory Is to Re-Launch Production

The Ethiopian Hansom International Glass factory, which had temporarily halted production due to hikes in international furnace oil prices,is to re-launch production according to Xia Yong,General Manager of the company.

The company found it hard to sustain production following the increase in the price of furnace oil from just 5 birr a liter before 2009 to 13 birr a liter said Yong. The factory suspended production activity in April 2010 and has reopened at this time after taking several steps to minimize costs.

Measures taken towards achieving this end include reducing the size of the furnace and diversifying the color of the product he noted.

The factory has also cut it production rate by half but this will increase production in response to demand for the product added the General Manager.

The company is confident in the quality of its products which are manufactured from quality raw materials in a manner similar to that used in China and is also sure that the new range of blue, brown and green sheets in addition to the clear glass it manufactured in the past will give it a competitive edge on the market said Yong.

Ethiopian Hansom International Glass was established in 2007 by its two shareholders the China Africa Fund and CGC Oversees Construction Limited. The factory is equipped with a complete production plant imported from China and currently employs for approximately 150 full time and 30 part time local employees.
