Jonway Auto, a China-based subsidiary of American automaker ZAP has introduced a small electric vehicle sedan, SPARKEE, for city commuters in China.
Developed collaboratively by ZAP and Jonway, the new SPARKEE is available in two models including lead acid version and lithium version.
The lead acid version offers a lower range of 120km, while the lithium version offers a longer range of more than 180km between charges. The company is targeting densely populated urban areas in China with this new EV sedan.
Jonway Auto is in plans to produce several thousand of these vehicles for the Chinese market by June 2014. It will also work with local dealers for the sales of this new vehicle.
Besides this, Jonway Auto is also in plans to expand the new vehicle to the Eastern European market. For this, the company is working with an Eastern European market partner to manage the type approval of this vehicle for the market.
Meanwhile, ZAP plans to roll out this new vehicle to selected markets in South America and is considering US partners for distribution into the US market.
The company also plans to introduce other versions of this model and small delivery vans for city service.
