Some Firms in China Reportedly to Sell or Halt Their Investments on The System Side

China-based solar firms reportedly to sell solar PV systems and power-generation plants Nuying Huang,Taipei;Jackie Chang,DIGITIMES[Tuesday 4 September 2012]China-based solar firms have been suffering from low demand in Europe and severe price competition among peers.Due to limited amount of cash and cash equivalents, some firms in China reportedly have been selling or halting their investments on the system side.

Hareon Solar,a China-based solar firm, has seen expenses rising and demand dwindling, according to China-based media.Market observers believes Hareon Solar will be able to see increasing profits in second-half 2012 or in 2013 if the firm can materialize its plan to sell its investments in a number of solar power-generation projects.

Industry sources said that one of the reasons for China's cash-strapped solar firms to reduce investments in solar PV system makers or projects is increasing difficulties in doing business in the US.The firms also fear possible trade barriers in Europe will likely limit the number of solar module exports.

China-based solar firms have also been downsizing their workforce to reduce production costs.According to sources in the solar industry,a significant amount of solar capacities in China have been idle.
