Ball's Brazilian Go on Commencing Second Beverage Can Production Line

Packaging supplier Ball has announced that its joint venture metal beverage can plant in Alagoinhas, Brazil will commence a second beverage can production line in the second half of 2013.

The Alagoinhas plant, which began production earlier in 2012, manufactures aluminum beverage cans for beer and other beverages.

According to Ball, the plant is part of Latapack-Ball Embalagens, which also operates metal beverage packaging plants in Tres Rios, Jacarei and Salvador, Brazil.

Ball president and chief executive officer John Hayes said the Brazilian can market has grown by about 10% in 2012 and demand for cans is expected to continue to rise.

"The second Alagoinhas line, like the first line, will be capable of making several different sizes. Its capacity is secured under long-term customer agreements," Hayes said.

Ball supplies packaging for beverage, food and household products customers among others.
