The Rezidor hotel group, which owns Radisson, Missoni and Regent hotels, will switch all of its lighting to LED sources by the end of next year.

The group, which owns over 420 hotels worldwide and over 50 in the UK, will change all of the lamps in public spaces to LED fixtures with both technical and design assistance from Philips.

This follows steps made in 2011 to give all new and refurbished hotels LED signage. Hotel rooms have also been gradually upgraded - as of 2011, 94 per cent of all Rezidor hotel rooms were equipped with energy efficient lighting. The switchover will also see the increased use of motion sensor and daylight sensor technology to reduce excessive use of lighting in buildings.

The move comes as part of the company's wider energy reduction strategy known as ThinkPlanet, geared toward intended savings of around €25m by 2016.

The initiative was launched in January, with energy-saving objectives allocated to hotels on an individual, regional and national level in conjunction with broad corporation-wide changes to energy policy.
