The BMW has pared off extra pounds from its 7 Series sedan, production of which has kicked off at its Dingolfing plant in Germany.
With the series output of the new variant set to begin next month, the sedan boasts of innovations in driving dynamics, comfort, intelligent connectivity and control that claim to supply a lightweight visage.
The lightweight effect, as reflected in the reduction of 130 kilograms from those in the previous generation, has been brought about with selective rendering of materials, the company said.
For instance, the passenger compartment is made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), which is 30% and 50% lighter than aluminum and steel, respectively.
The structure, dubbed 'carbon core', is a transfer from BMW i models stated to optimize vehicle weight, along with material strength and rigidity.
This is claimed to be capable of cutting down fuel consumption and emissions backed by an improved driving performance, dynamics and comfort.
BMW Board of Management chairman Harald Krüger said: "This car demonstrates the full innovation capabilities of our developers and designers, as well as the extensive experience and expertise gained from producing our flagship model here in Dingolfing.
"We have invested more than half a billion euros in the plant in the past three years alone for this purpose. The Plant has been developed and adapted so that it is fully prepared for the future with new technologies, such as carbon fibre and electrification. This represents a clear commitment on the part of the BMW Group to both Dingolfing as a high-tech production location, and to Germany."
Besides, the specification of Steering and Lane Control Assistant in the sedan is capable of demonstrating semi-automated assistance at speeds up to 210km/h.
BMW's Dingolfing plant has so far made over 1.6 million BMW 7 Series, with its main markets in China, the US, Germany, the Middle East, Russia, Korea, the UK and Japan.
BMW's Dingolfing unit head Josef Kerscher said: "Our preparations for the start of production of the new BMW 7 Series have been intensive. We have been building the BMW brand flagship and technology platform for almost 40 years in Dingolfing."
