WASHINGTON—Made:In America,a nonprofit dedicated to fostering a business climate that supports U.S.manufacturing,has honored some well-known furniture companies with its annual manufacturing awards.
High end case goods and upholstery manufacturer Kittinger Furniture has won the 2012 Best:Made in America award for its history of manufacturing quality,custom-designed and bench made furniture.Ray Bialkowski,the company's president,said Kittinger was"honored and grateful"to receive the award.
"Since 1866,Kittinger Furniture has demonstrated the tenacity required to achieve excellence in furniture design,manufacturing,and economic sustainability during periods of management transitions and recessions.We have been and continue to be dedicated to American craftsmanship and the American worker,"he said.
Other furniture companies that were honored include case goods and upholstery producer Hickory Chair and lighting and furnishings producer Niermann Weeks,both of which received the Build It in America 2012 Award.
In its citation,the Made:In America organization said:"Hickory is still guided by a genuine commitment to custom craftsmanship and timely service.The furniture styles are distinguished by an authentic,timeless spirit.The furniture is proudly made to order and made to last,by a team of talented and attentive artisans in Hickory,North Carolina."
The organization applauded Niermann Weeks for producing custom-designed products to meet the needs of its clients as well as its use of environmentally friendly production processes.
Made:In America also recognized Grand Rapids,Mich.-based case goods and upholstery producer Kindel Furniture with its Special 100th Anniversary Award.In its citation,it noted,"Kindel furniture graces the White House,the famed diplomatic reception rooms at the Department of State,Blair house and in countless fine residences around the world."
