Honda Motor is reportedly planning to bring its self-driving car on the road by 2020, joining the automated car race.
Major automakers such as Toyota and Nissan have already announced their entry to into the self-driving car market by 2020, while Google started testing its autonomous cars on the public streets.
Apart from Google, tech major Apple is also planning to venture into the self driving car market.
Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Tesla, and Delphi Automotive have also received approval from the regulators under the Autonomous Vehicle Tester Programme.
This year, Honda began adopting its sensing technologies, which enables automatic braking, increasing the automated capabilities of its products, Asian Review reported.
As part of the new development, the company will improve the performance of cameras, radar and control systems to support its self-driving car project.
Nissan earlier said that the company will introduce its self-driving cars in Japan by next year and planning to make the car ready to navigate on busy urban environments by 2020.
In addition, the company also entered into a five-year agreement with NASA for the development of self-driving technology.
Currently, Toyota is testing a new automated driving vehicle called Highway Teammate and is scheduled to launch similar products by 2020.
According to European consulting company Roland Berger, market for self-driving autos is expected to expand up to $60bn by 2030.
Meanwhile, Guangqi Honda Automobile, an automobile production and sales joint venture of Honda in China, has opened its third automobile production plant and an engine plant.
The new plant features significant advances in areas of production efficiency, product quality, energy conservation and environmental responsibility.
