Palama Holdings is recalling about 3,600 pounds of raw, frozen marinated chicken products after potential temperature irregularities have been identified, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said.
The products being recalled include 10lb. cardboard boxes, containing four individual cryovac sealed packages of May's Hawaii 'Hawaiian Style, Boneless and Skinless Teriyaki Chicken Thighs.'
Distributed for retail sale in the Hawaiian islands of Oahu, Maui and Kauai and to military commissary, the packages feature dates of 15 October 2013 or 5 November 2013 and the establishment number 'EST. P-11077' in the USDA mark of inspection.
The problem was identified when the company's distributor noticed that the product boxes were swollen with gases from the bagged chicken, which indicates that there may have been temperature abuse prior to product distribution.
FSIS and Palama Holdings have received no reports of illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. Those who are concerned about a reaction have been advised to contact a healthcare provider.
