Accuray Enters Into an Agreement to Buy a Developer of Medical Imaging Software Systems

Accuray Incorporated has entered into a definitive agreement to buy a developer of medical imaging software systems, Morphormics, for $5.7m.

Morphormics' medical imaging software systems automatically recognize and extract anatomical structures from medical images.

Accuray president and chief executive officer Euan Thomson said, "Since our licensing agreement with Morphormics began, we have seen firsthand the benefits the company's technology provides clinicians in improving efficiency, especially in the treatment of prostate cancer, and its potential to improve patient outcomes."

Morphormics co-founder and University of North Carolina radiation oncology and biomedical engineering professor Edward Chaney said, "Accuray's acquisition confirms the value our technology offers in its ability to dramatically increase efficiency and accuracy in the delivery of image-guided medical treatment."

Accuray said the acquisition will enable it to extend autocontouring capabilities for both the CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery system and the TomoTherapy system, to improve disease specific workflows.
