Nestlé USA is set to relocate its Pizza Division from the current Northbrook, Illinois location to Solon, Ohio by mid-2014.

The Pizza Division is engaged in the manufacture of popular pizza brands, including DIGIORNO, CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN, TOMBSTONE and JACK's, which were acquired from Kraft Foods in 2010 for $3.7bn.

It will join other Nestlé USA businesses in Solon, Ohio, which include Nestlé Prepared Foods, Nestlé Baking. Together the businesses employ approximately 8,800 people across ten manufacturing sites in the country.

The company stated that employees in Northbrook were notified of the decision and will be offered the opportunity to relocate to Ohio.

Nestlé executive John Carmichael will be named as Nestlé Pizza president on 1 January 2014, while the existing president Paul Bakus will be appointed as Corporate Affairs president for Nestlé in the market.

Nestlé USA chairman and CEO Paul Grimwood said, "By moving Nestlé Pizza to Ohio, we'll bring together terrific brands and powerful businesses that will create many more talent development opportunities for our Nestlé employees.

"The decision also allows us to better manage our costs and to improve our efficiencies by operating as One Nestlé with our retailers."

The relocated business will benefit from close proximity to the expanding R&D facilities in Solon, Ohio.

In June, the company announced $53m investment to set up a Product Technology Center for frozen and chilled foods research. It will be operational in early 2015.
