General Motors has introduced two air bags that will be equipped in the company's 2013 cars and crossovers.
The company has collaborated with safety restraint supplier Takata for the production of the air bags.
Vehicles including Cruze, Acadia, Traverse and Enclave will be equipped with the new air bag, which is designed to offer an energy-absorbing cushion between drivers and front passengers in side impact crashes and rollover events, as well as added protection to the driver in far-side impacts.
GM vehicle safety and crashworthiness general director Gay Kent said that the new air bag technologies provide smart ways to manage crash forces, and are an integral part of Cruze's continued success in safety testing and real world performance.
"The latest safety rating reflects the confidence we have in its new and carry-over safety technologies and overall crashworthiness," Kent said.
The Cruze will feature the flexible venting, single-stage 'smart air bag' that uses one lower output inflator to manage both low-speed and high-speed crash forces.
