Penske Truck Leasing has secured $400,000 in grant from the US Department of Energy for its Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Demonstration and Enhanced Driver Experience Project.
The AFV project will be managed by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
This project will provide heavy duty compressed natural gas vehicles to new drivers and fleets via Penske's existing service market.
The funds will be used to introduce alternative fuel vehicles to the company's customer base.
Penske Truck Leasing Alternative Fuels director Matt Krasney said: "This is a unique program and the first of its kind for our company.
"This grant will allow fleets to experience alternatively fueled vehicles at a reduced cost, and it will provide Penske the ability to expand our work with customer fleets via comprehensive demonstrations and deep dive technical support."
The company is planning to begin the process to identify truck leasing and commercial truck rental customers nationally for participation.
