Automobile major General Motors (GM) will pump in $119m in tools and equipment to boost the component output for its future vehicles at its Grand Rapids operations unit in Michigan, creating around 300 employment opportunities.
The announcement for job creation accounts for around half of 650 employees that the automaker plans to induct. The plant has currently a headcount of 500 employees.
The facility produces a variety of precision-machined engine components used in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles.
GM North America manufacturing manager Scott Whybrew said: "This investment in the future recognizes the excellent workforce at Grand Rapids Operations.
"It also demonstrates GM's collaboration with our UAW partners to innovate and bring tangible benefits to our customers."
The investment is under the $5.4bn investment plan, announced by the GM on April 30, for the US facilities. Of the total investment declared by the company, $3bn has been invested so far.
United Automobile Workers (UAW) vice-president Cindy Estrada said: "By working together, UAW members and GM are making a difference in communities across the United States.
"These investments represent the power of our partnership and collective bargaining to create jobs and improve competitiveness, quality and our manufacturing base in this country."
