Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania has received an order from the government of the Australian Capital Territory to supply a fleet of 77 Euro 6 city buses.
Australian Capital Territory Internal Omnibus Network (ACTION) is the first Australian bus fleet operator to adopt Euro 6 technology.
Initial deliveries of the fleet, which includes two axle city buses with 9l engines, will take place during the first half of 2014.
ACTION has just completed a delivery program for 33 new articulated Scania buses complementing the 26 Scania 14.5m buses and 54 Scania CNG buses in the fleet.
The 12.5m city buses will be fitted with Australian-designed bodies constructed by Custom, a national bus bodybuilder. The buses will seat 48 passengers with 18 standees.
Scania Australia national bus manager Trevor O'Brien said that ACTION has decided to take the lead in the introduction of Euro 6 emission technology to bus fleets in Australia.
"The Australian Federal Government is yet to announce a date for the introduction of Euro 6 emission standards, underlining the progressive action of the ACT operator." O'Brien added.
