2 Sisters Food Group has purchased the former S&A Foods site, just days after it had entered into discussions to acquire the East Midlands site that was owned by the Indian snack maker S&A, which fell into administration in October.

2 Sisters Food Group had stated that it had plans to develop the site previously owned by S&A Foods and to hold recruitments in near future.

The manufacturer of Fox's biscuits and Goodfella's pizzas had decided the purchase the site where 300 workers were made redundant following S&A Foods' closure, which was attributed to its loss of Asda supply contract.

Established in West Bromwich in 1993, 2 Sisters employs more than 23,000 people at its offices in the UK, Ireland, Poland and the Netherlands.

2 Sisters Food Group communications head Nick Murray said that the talks to buy the site on Sir Francis Ley Industrial Estate were concluded on Friday. He also said that the company was working to make arrangements to develop the site and draw local workforce through various employment initiatives in the coming weeks, reports International Supermarket News.

The company, however, has not specified as to what sort of foods would be manufactured at the newly purchased site.

2 Sisters' primary operation is poultry processing. It also produces red meat, frozen products, chilled foods and biscuits, Insider Media reported.

The site acquisition plan comes after the company's recent announcement to invest £150m in its poultry business in order to modernize the unit.

2 Sisters CEO Ranjit Boparan was then quoted by Expressandstar.com as saying: "We are aiming to further align our poultry business with the needs of our customers, creating world class facilities utilising state of the art technology, and driving efficiency."

In October, the company also announced its intention to invest £55m in its meals solution division, which is focused on own-label products, and produces ready meals, soups and sauces for Marks & Spencer out of four factories - Pennine Foods in Sheffield, Rogerstone in South Wales, Carlisle, and Grimsby.
