Frutarom Health has introduced a new patented natural ingredient made from olive and citrus extracts to expand its Mediterranean range of ingredients.
The ingredient comes in powder form which can be easily dissolved in water. It can be used in functional food and drinks, nutrition bars and dietary supplements.
CitrOlive will be exhibited at the SupplySide West ingredient and solutions tradeshow in Las Vegas next month.
Frutarom Health product manager Yannick Capelle said: “CitrOlive is an important addition to our Mediterranean ingredients line.
“It reflects our mission to explore the benefits of the Mediterranean Diet and provide pure, safe ingredients backed by solid scientific research.”
Frutarom said that a double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial performed at Murcia University (UCAM), Spain, showed that subjects who had consumed 500mg/day of CitrOlive for 90 days had a huge drop in the cardiovascular disorders-causing triglycerides and oxidized LDL levels.
The company also said that the new ingredient has been demonstrated to be safe by acute toxicity studies even if it is consumed in high doses.
According to Futarom, CitrOlive is a result of its extensive research of key phytochemicals, polyphenols and flavonoids.
CitrOlive is said to provide all the benefits that come from a healthy Mediterranean diet which has been linked to lower risk levels of cardiovascular problems while being a healthy and nutrition diet.
Cappelle added: “CitrOlive is an innovative and natural ingredient that delivers the phytonutrients of the Mediterranean Diet in a concentrated form.”
