The Sales of Ford's Q1 Vehicle Cuts Down 13.6% in China

Ford China has sold 121,393 wholesale vehicles in the first quarter of 2012, down 13.6% compared to 140,566 vehicles in the corresponding quarter in 2011.

The car manufacturer has sold 49,439 wholesale vehicles in March 2012, compared to 55,292 vehicles in the same month in the previous year.

Ford China chairman and CEO David Schoch said the company recently began production of the New Focus at its Chongqing plant.

"This is the first of 15 new vehicles we will be bringing to China and it is already generating strong customer interest," Schoch added.

Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA) sold 27,374 Ford-brand vehicles in March 2012 compared to 33,113 last year, while Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford's commercial vehicle investment in China, sold 22,005 compared to 21,892 vehicles in March 2011.

Last week, Ford announced a $600m investment to expand annual production capacity in Chongqing by 350,000 passenger vehicles.

The expansion will increase Ford's total capacity in China to 950,000 passenger vehicles annually, and start operations in late 2014.

Ford is planning to unveil three all-new sport utility vehicles in addition to the New Focus at Beijing's Auto China 2012.
