RoomSide Low-E Coating Improves U-value Performance -- Architects and building designers now have more options for improving U-value performance. Viracon is pleased to announce an expanded product offering using its new RoomSide™ Low-E coating, which was introduced in an insulating dual pane configuration in March of 2013. Now, this new interior glass coating can be applied to laminated and insulating laminated products.
The coating, which is located on the interior or ‘room side’ surface (surface number 6 in an insulating laminated configuration), works by reflecting indoor heat back into the room and improving thermal efficiency. When used in combination with a high performance coating on the number 2 surface and an argon fill, the glazing unit can offer comparable U-value performance to a triple insulating unit without the additional expense of another spacer and glass lite. The coating is also highly durable with a smooth surface that makes it easier to clean.
“Insulating laminated products are common in safety and protective glazing applications, and we are delighted to offer a solution providing greater U-value performance,” says Kevin Anez, Director of Marketing and Product Management for Viracon. “Our customers continually challenge our team to develop and introduce products that meet or exceed energy code standards, and the Viracon RoomSide Low-E coating is another tool that enables a more advanced solution.”
