Glass and metal packaging solutions provider Ardagh Group and French vegetable processing firm Bonduelle have launched a new steel can, which offers enhanced consumer appeal and significant environmental benefits.
Ardagh stated that development of new can represents a significant advance in DWI can production and processing technology.
With this development, the company has been able to incorporate nitrogen dosing techniques, similar to those used in the beverage industry, for the first time in food canning.
Features of the new design also enhanced the can's appeal to the consumer, beading on the can has been removed to form a premium look and feel to the packaging and the new sleek surface of the can allows for label application or for direct printing onto the can.
The Bonduelle cans are manufactured at Ardagh's DWI advanced production facility in Deventer in the Netherlands, and filled at Bonduelle's plant in Vaulx Vraucourt, Northern France.
These cans will be first used on Bonduelle's Winter Vegetable range - Red Beans and Black Beans, to be followed by the rollout on other products in the company's canned vegetable range.
Bonduelle commercial and marketing director Agnes Dion said through close cooperation with Ardagh, the company is delighted to continue Bonduelle's track record of being first to market with new product innovations.
"This new concept contains so many benefits for the consumer, and is a true success story for sustainable metal packaging," Dion added.
