The 2019 Fusion sedan is the first vehicle globally to get Ford's new Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assistance technology.
Ford also announced sleeker styling for all models and better projected all-electric driving range for the plug-in hybrid Fusion Energi.
Ford will showcase the new Fusion at the upcoming New York Auto Show and said that the vehicle will be available in showrooms by late summer.
The new Fusion models include Fusion S, Fusion SE, Fusion Hybrid SE, Fusion SEL, Fusion Hybrid SEL, Fusion Titanium, Fusion Hybrid Titanium, Fusion Energi Titanium and Fusion V6 Sport.
The company said every 2019 Fusion features should have Ford Co-Pilot360 Protect driver-assist technologies as standard equipment, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot information system, lane keeping system, a rear backup camera and auto high-beam lighting.
Automatic emergency braking is claimed to help in reducing the severity of or potentially prevent collisions with other vehicles and pedestrians who may cross in front of the car’s path unknowingly.
The blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert uses radar to identify surrounding vehicles, offering alerts if vehicles are detected approaching unseen from either side.
The lane keeping system helps in avoiding lane drift and the standard lane keeps vibrating the steering wheel and can also apply extra steering wheel torque to help keep the car centered in the lane.
Ford also claims that its Co-Pilot360 Protect comes with advanced bungle of optional driver-assist technologies, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go. The system can automatically accelerate and brakes to a full stop when traffic halts, while maintaining safe distance from surrounding vehicles.
The company says that its Fusion Energi can offer an EPA-estimated electric-only range of 25 miles, which is claimed to be nearly 20% greater than its current model. The vehicle is equipped with a new 9kWh lithium-ion battery.
Ford car group marketing manager Corey Holter said: “People tell us they are stressed with crowded roads and more distracted drivers and pedestrians. Our Ford Co-Pilot360 with standard automatic emergency braking and other technologies can help them drive more confidently so they can enjoy the journey.
“For our green-minded customers, we’ve amped up our Fusion Energi with a projected increase of nearly 20% electric-only driving range.”
