Teradata today introduced the Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse 6700 platform, which adds a fabric-based hyper-speed nervous system and a new core analytic brain to the Teradata Unified Data Architecture.
These new innovations enhance the ability of organisations to exploit all their data regardless of its type, the data company said during the announcement at Teradata Universe in Copenhagen.
The Teradata Unified Data Architecture brings together Teradata, Teradata Aster and Hadoop technology, as well as best-of-breed partner tools, to create a cohesive architecture. According to Teradata, this makes it the first vendor to provide a truly comprehensive framework to handle all types of data and any analytics techniques.
“With adoption of fabric-based computing, Teradata offers a high-speed, private analytic network with flexible configurations as the backbone of the entire Teradata Unified Data Architecture,” said Scott Gnau, President, Teradata Labs.
“The speed of connection and robust management of fabric-based computing empowers our customers to take hyper-speed analytics and business insights to a new level.”
Some of the components Teradata leverages within its Unified Data Architecture include the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating system, NetApp storage systems, Intel Xeon Processors, and now Mellanox InfiniBand for fabric-based computing.
Teradata said it selected Mellanox InifiBand hardware to provide fast, reliable data flow and interconnection for all reporting and analytic applications that run on the workload-specific Teradata platforms, as well as open-source Apache Hadoop.
“With the selection of Mellanox InfiniBand, Teradata has completed the move to a completely open hardware stack,” Gnau said. “By leveraging an open stack of high volume hardware components, we can uniquely provide our customers with the highest quality, best performance, and quickest time to market.”
Teradata also revealed BYNET software as the “secret sauce” to provide in-query data sorting, unique point-to-point, and broadcast communication functions.
In addition, it intelligently links the processing units of the Unified Data Architecture to enhance performance, and easily scales to over 2,000 parallel processing units, Teradata said.
The Teradata Enterprise Active Enterprise Data Warehouse is now available for shipment.
