Mousquetaires Sees Its Sales Increase by More Than 5% in 2012

French food retailer and manufacturer Les Mousquetaires saw its sales increase by more than 5% in 2012, with supermarket chain Intermarché gaining market share and higher revenues at its production arm.

The company today (12 February) posted sales of EUR39.1m (US$52.6bn) for 2012, up 5.1% on 2011.

Sales at its Intermarché stores in France grew 7.4%, excluding fuel. Les Mousquetaires said the chain had increased its share of France's grocery market by 0.7 percentage points to 14%.

Les Mousquetaires also has Intermarché stores in Portugal, Poland and Belgium. It also runs discount outlets under the Netto banner in France. Combined revenues from Intermarché and Netto were up 6.5%, excluding petrol, it said.

The group is also a manufacturer of own-label products in France. Revenue from the business increased 7.8% to EUR3.5bn.

Les Mousquetaires, which has 60 production plants in France, said it is the 11th largest food producer in the country. It wants to become the fifth largest by 2015.
