Fresh produce firm Univeg is exploring the possibility of a merger with fruits and vegetables processor Greenyard Foods and agribusiness Peatinvest.
Univeg believes that the combination of three companies will be capable of offering the full range of fresh, frozen and canned products, thus becoming a global player in the fruit and vegetables market.
Univeg, Greenyard Foods and Peatinvest chairman Hein Deprez said: "Creating a combined group offering fresh, frozen and canned fruit and vegetables would be beneficial to growers, retailers, consumer, employees and shareholders.
"We believe societal trends call for a more holistic view on fruit and vegetable consumption."
The combined company, if formed, will generate €3.7bn in sales.
However, the possibility to form a merger or any agreement between the three companies is not certain.
Discussions regarding the possible merger are scheduled to take place and a joint strategic roadmap for the combined entity is currently under consideration.
