Mercedes-Benz Started Its New Sprinter Vans at Dssseldorf and Ludwigsfelde Plants

German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has started series production of its new Sprinter Vans at Dssseldorf and Ludwigsfelde plants in the home-market.

Mercedes-Benz Starts Production of Sprinter Vans in Germany

The production follows manufacturer's investment of EUR25m in the two German van plants and over eight million kilometers of test drives.

According to the company, the new Sprinter features five new safety and assistance systems, including three van premieres and is the first van to be powered with engines that comply with the Euro VI emissions standards, while offering fuel consumptions of 6.3L/km.

The company's Dusseldorf facility has a footprint of about 700,000sqm and production capacity of about 150,000 vans per year including all the closed-top panel variants of the Sprinter.

Mercedes-Benz also manufactures the Sprinter vans at Charleston in South Carolina, Gonzalez Catan in Argentina and Fuzhou in China in addition to the current plants in Dusseldorf and Ludwigsfelde.

Additionally, the company is planning to produce the vans at the Russian manufacturer GAZ's Nizhny Novgorod plant in order to penetrate the regions increasing market.
