Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely) has signed a deal with the Belarusian government to establish a large joint venture automobile assembly project, marking the first automotive joint venture between China and Belarus.
Under the contract, Geely will collaborate with the mining machinery company BELAZ and a large-parts production joint venture SOYUZ to form a joint stock company called BELGEE.
Geely will start the production of the SUV-EX7, the Geely SC7, SC5 and the LC-CROSS at the new joint venture company, which will be having an initial production capacity of 120,000 units per annum.
The project's production capacity and product line will be expanded to allow it to supply vehicles to Russia, Ukraine and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) market.
Since March 2013, Geely SC7 has been available in Belarus, while the SUV-EX7 is expected to be made available by end of the year.
The Geely-Belarus joint venture agreement is expected to promote the development of the Belarusian automobile industry as well as offer Geely with a platform to expand its presence in the CIS market.
