US auto maker Chrysler has unveiled the redesigned 2014 Jeep Cherokee mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) ahead of its global debut at the upcoming New York International Auto Show to be held during 29 March to 07 April 2013 in the US.
The new Cherokee SUV is expected to be powered by a 3.2L V-6 engine, which is based on the automaker's 3.6L Pentastar engine, and will be mated to a new nine-speed front-wheel-drive automatic transmission.
Aimed at replacing the Liberty SUV in the US, the new Cherokee is claimed to come with improved fuel economy of about more than 45% compared to the outgoing model.
The new SUV will be built at the Chrysler Group's Toledo Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio, which is currently being retooled since August 2012 for the production of the Liberty replacement.
Production of the new model is expected to commence in May 2013 and sales are expected to start in third quarter of the year.
Additionally, Chrysler is aiming to sell about 800,000 Jeep vehicles per year by 2014.
